CHARACTER CORNER
While there is no single script for effective character education, WCPSS has adopted eight specific traits to summarize the key principles.  By utilizing the same language of character and using specific words, our families can join with our schools and community in cultivating a “culture of character”. Since 2002, WCPTA Character Education Committee compiles a “Character Corner” for each of these traits for use by students and families.   Please feel free to have use any material for your school’s student and parent newsletters and creating a link from your school’s website to this address.  Each “Corner” will include

I. Student Section on Meaning, Application and Examples for their lives
II. Parent Tips for Promoting Desired Trait
III. Activities and Discussion Prompts for Families to do Together
IV. Inspiring Famous Quotes
V. Upcoming Events, News and Success Stories

Eight Character Corners
September – Responsibility
October – Respect
November – Courage
December – Kindness
January – Self Discipline
February – Integrity
March – Perseverance
April – Good Judgment
May – Citizenship

School Improvement Plans need to have concrete character education strategies integrated into them.

Other activities revolving around Character Education also include supporting Guidance Counselor activities in the classroom.  An example of this in Elementary schools would be Emotional Intelligence Training .
